Sneaky Snacks: A Food Sensitive Snack Review Series

Updated: May 21, 2023

I love snacks. I love food in general, but there is something about snacks that lights up every pathway in my brain like nothing else can. As a fellow food sensitive girly I am always on the hunt for the best gluten free, dairy free snacks out there. Every grocery trip I bring home a few new snacks to try out because the only thing more exciting than having a great snack is having a new great snack, you feel me? The term sneaky snack came about when I moved in with my boyfriend and noticed my favorite snacks were disappearing at an alarming rate. I soon found that the best solution was to hide my favorite snacks and sneak them in the kitchen, which ended in him asking if I was having a “sneaky snack” thus sneaky snacks were born. Sneaky Snacks: A Snack Review Series will include weekly (or maybe monthly because as I‘m typing it out weekly seems a little lofty) snack reviews of a variety of dairy free, gluten free snacks. I should note that I do not like spicy foods so if you are looking for a review of the best dairy free, gluten free spicy snacks - this is not the review for you.

Snack Rating Criteria

Sneaky Snack ratings will be evaluated using the following criteria:

Price:

Price will be given one of three terms: Crazy cheap, reasonable or ridiculously expensive. Prices will not be comparative across categories of snacks ie. ice cream to chips but will rather be looked at across the single snack category, chips compared to other GF/DF chips.

Taste:

Does the salt cut the sweetness of the chocolate just right? Is there enough crunch? Is there enough acidity in the vinegar ? lol JK. Honestly, flavor is based on do I like it or is it gross.

Overall ”Sneaky” Score:

The over all sneaky snack score will take all elements into consideration and each snack will be assigned a number 1-10 evaluating its overall level of sneak.

1. Do not give it to your boyfriend, do not stop at go, throw it away.

2. Leave the snack out on the counter, if it’s not gone by the end of the day throw it out

3. Shove the snack back in the cupboard and simply forget it exists

4. Try another bite, but ultimately give it to your boyfriend to eat

5. Finish the snack yourself, but don’t buy it again

6. Offer to share the snack with your boyfriend

7. Offer a very small portion of the snack to your boyfriend

8. Don’t mention the snack to your boyfriend and maybe he won’t eat it

9. Put the snack in the secret stash spot and cautiously eat in front of your boyfriend

10. HIDE THAT SNACK. DO NOT EAT IN FRONT OF BOYFRIEND

Disclaimer: This is obviously satirical. There is enough food waste in the world do not throw out snacks based on this series. Try offering them to friends, co-worker, family etc. Someone with terrible taste is probably going to love them. Again, another joke.

Second disclaimer: the term boyfriend is used here as this is specific to my sneaky snack arrangement but can be interchanged to fit readers need with terms such as girlfriend, partner, child, dog etc.

Snacks will include a wide range of in between meal foods including but not limited to: pickles, chips, ice cream, protein bars, popcorn, nuts, granola, candy and on and on and on.

See you next week for the first installment of Sneaky Snacks: A Food Sensitive Snack Review Series
